The history of the Munchkin cat
sources: original Cat Munchkin short-leg
The first thing is to make clear that the Munchkin cat breed was not created
in the laboratory, is a breed created by a spontaneous natural mutation.
Through selective breeding of some people, it has a different race to the
other.

ANCESTORS OF Munchkin
There are some stories along the story that mentioned the occurrence of
mutations of cats with short legs:
The best documented data in the United Kingdom in 1944 and was described by
Dr. Hon. William-Jones has a description of 4 generations of short-legged
cats living in the wild in England, these movements were similar to Dr.
ferrets. This mutation disappeared during the Second World War.
appearance of the Munchkin
The first short-legged cat who knows what Sandra found Hochenedal, professor
of music in Louisiana in 1982; Hochenedal saw that one of the cat that used
to run around their plantations to be Acorralada under a vehicle for a few
dogs the persecuted, surprisingly gave no appearance of legs, the cat was in
a state and the birth of the litter observed a deformity in the legs of
litter 2 pups, and spend the weeks that had been short-legged cats legs
normal in the same boat, and they called babylegs LongLegs. Those two short
leg babylegs were called Blackberry and Blueberry. Ms. Sandra Hochenedal
gave Blueberry, blue, and retained Blackberry black color that had a litter
of short legs, a cat litter that Blackberry was sent to a friend Sandra who
established his own nursery in munchkins Louisiana.
In the 80 breeders Richard Reinke of Phoenixville (Pennsylvania) and Dr.
Barbara Eisen of Allentwon (New Jersey), friends of Sandra, and raised
babylegs LongLegs.
It was not until 1990 when they reached the hands of geneticist Dr. Telling
Pflueger, who was called to show Good Morning America to present these cats;
Hochenedal called Sandra, and they should put a name to this new breed and
disseminate to the world so Hochenedal thought a few seconds, and you came
to mind the people in the history of the Wizard of Oz, a village of little
people, and said: ¡¡MUNCHKINS!
Have spent many problems because of its peculiarity of race has been very
controversial, suspected of suffering from diseases that could affect the
spine as has happened with the Dachshund dog breeds. Dr. Pflueger took a
survey of the race before its acceptance in practice and not only was a
Munchkin in the race viable and able to perform jumps and stunts, do not
envy any race with long legs, but also Dr. Pflueger fell in love with the
breed and its character and became keeper of munchkins.
Today Munchkin spans the world and be part of many states in America,
beginning in 2002 have some copies in northwestern Europe and Russia.

descendants of the Munchkin
The Munchkin breed is very new (less than 30 years of history) but it has a
great legacy, given the characteristics of the Munchkin breed has attracted
breeders of other breeds that have crossed the Munchkin with different races,
with new features to the offspring and forming the origin of new races:
When crossing with Persian cats, born Napoleon, one of the most abundant (photo

When crossing the american curl, born kinkalow (photo 2)
When crossing the scottish fold scottish born Kilt (photo 3)
Gato bambino. This, the most striking and popular, is undoubtedly the most
difficult to achieve, since being a recessive gene that causes baldness in
Sphynx had to cross the two races three or more generations to get this
breed (Photo4)
